News Dr. Sanam Vardag appointed as a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the German Metservice
Dr. Sanam Vardag has been appointed by the Federal Minister for Digital and Transport Affairs, Dr. Volker Wissing, as a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the German Weather Service (DWD) with effect from 17.2.2025. Dr. Vardag heads a research group at the Institute of Environmental Physics that investigates the carbon cycle from the local to the global scale. To this end, Dr. Vardag uses and develops transport models that allow for estimating and deciphering sources and sinks of carbon dioxide.
One focus is on man-made carbon dioxide emissions in urban regions, another on biogenic processes on continental scales. The Scientific Advisory Board advises the DWD Executive Board on important matters of research carried out by the DWD. This increasingly includes the monitoring of greenhouse gas emissions and the role of the carbon cycle in the climate system, one of the areas of expertise that Dr. Vardag plays a key role in.
